The Desktop HUD

A command center for your money,
one keystroke away.

The HUD is a native desktop app for Windows and macOS that floats your finances above every other window — so you never have to go looking for them. Here's everything it does.

It stays on screen while you do everything else. Email, spreadsheets, code, games — the HUD floats above all of it. Drag it anywhere, reshape it to anything, reorder the tiles, or hit Ctrl+Shift+P to make it click-through so it never gets in your way.

The Persistence desktop HUD floating above a document
Always on top
A slim bar pinned above everything — email, spreadsheets, your IDE, a game. It's just there, all day, without stealing a single pixel of your workflow.
Live tiles & deltas
Net Worth, Safe to Spend, Credit Cards this week, Bills in 7 days, Goal pacing — each tile shows the number and its green/red change, with a 1D / 1W / 1M toggle.
Global hotkeys
Ctrl+Shift+H shows or hides the HUD instantly. Ctrl+Shift+P flips it into ghost mode. They work from any app, anytime — no need to click the bar first.
Ghost (click-through) mode
Make the bar see-through to your mouse — clicks pass straight through to whatever's behind it. The HUD stays visible but is completely out of the way.
Reshape to fit
Drag any edge and the layout fluidly reflows — from a full-width top bar to a compact corner widget. It fills whatever size and shape you give it.
Drag to reorder
Grab any tile and drop it where you want. Put the numbers you care about first — your order is remembered between launches.
Move it or snap it
Drag the HUD anywhere on screen by its grip, or hit snap-to-top to lock it flush against the top edge of your display in one click.
Settings panel
Tune bar opacity, choose exactly which metrics show, set the refresh interval, switch light/dark, toggle launch-at-startup, or sign out — all inline, without leaving the bar.
Starts & updates itself
Opens automatically when your computer boots, refreshes your accounts on a schedule, and updates itself in the background with cryptographically signed releases.
Tuck it away
Minimize the HUD to the system tray when you want a clean screen, and bring it back from the tray menu or a hotkey the moment you need a glance.
The Web App

The full picture, when you want to dig in.

When a glance isn't enough, the full dashboard is one click away in your browser — same data, room to explore. Net worth over time, every account, AI-written insights, and a chat that already knows your money.

The Persistence web dashboard showing net worth, accounts, insights and the built-in AI chat
📈
Net worth, charted
Your net worth trended over time, with the same metric bar from the HUD up top — every figure carrying a 1D / 1W / 1M delta so you see direction at a glance.
AI insights, not just numbers
The dashboard surfaces plain-English observations — "strong cash position to leverage," "negative net worth needs attention" — the moment they actually matter.
Persistence AI, built in
A chat panel sits right beside your data with full context. Ask about your spending, a bill, or whether you can afford something — and get an answer grounded in your real accounts.
🧠
Money Intelligence
Automatic subscription detection, a 30-day cash-flow forecast that warns before you dip below zero, smart alerts, and one-click cleanup of messy transaction labels.
Every account in one place
Checking, savings, credit cards, loans and investments across every bank — linked securely through Plaid and refreshed automatically.
Bills & goals
See what's due in the days ahead before it hits, and track real progress toward the things you're saving for — all on the same screen.
Why Persistence

No other money app
does this.

Every finance app is a tab you forget to open. Persistence is the only one that's simply — there.

The Only Persistent HUD
Budgeting apps live in a browser tab you visit once a month. Persistence lives on your screen: an always-on-top bar over every window, with global hotkeys and a click-through ghost mode. Constant awareness, zero effort.
Bring Any AI You Want
Our MCP server plugs your finances into Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor — any MCP-compatible client you already use. Ask your own AI about your actual money. Read-only, revocable, yours.
Keep Your Current Apps
Already on Monarch, Rocket Money, or YNAB? Keep them. Persistence connects to the same banks and works alongside whatever you use — zero migration, no switching cost. It's the always-visible layer they're missing.
🔒
Security You Can Actually Read
Your bank login never touches us (Plaid handles it), tokens are double-encrypted at rest, sessions are short-lived, and app updates are cryptographically signed. Read exactly how your data is protected →
Agentic AI

Now your AI can organize your money
— not just read it.

Persistence ships a hosted MCP server, now 24 tools deep. Connect the assistants you already use and let them categorize spending, set goals, build automation rules, log accounts, read your portfolio and credit cards, propose trades for your approval, and remember what matters. The one thing they can never do: move your money on their own.

Tidy up my spending — tag every Chipotle charge as Dining, and flag anything weird.
persistence · create_rule · get_anomalies
Done. I made a rule that tags Chipotle as Dining and applied it to 14 past charges. Two flags: a possible duplicate — two $64.20 Whole Foods charges two days apart — and your Spotify went $10.99 → $11.99 last month. Nothing was moved; I only organize your data.
Can I afford a $400 flight to Denver this month?
persistence · can_i_afford
Yes — comfortably. Your forecast low point stays around $840 above your goal contributions even after the flight, with every bill this month still covered.

Investing

Strategies your AI runs —
with your hand on the switch.

See your whole portfolio, set a target allocation, and let pluggable strategies propose the trades to get there. You approve every order. Practice on paper first, then connect your own brokerage — nothing ever moves without your explicit say-so. Persistence is a tool, not an adviser, and this isn't investment advice.

Your portfolio, clearly
Holdings across every linked brokerage, allocation by asset type, and how far you've drifted from your target — pulled in automatically through Plaid.
Strategies you choose
Dollar-cost averaging, target-allocation rebalancing, equal-weight — pick a strategy and its parameters and it proposes the exact orders to run it. Transparent and configurable.
Propose & approve
The AI never executes on its own. Every order is a proposal you review and approve, inside server-enforced risk limits — per-order and daily caps, a symbol allowlist, and a kill-switch.
Paper-first, then your own broker
Try any strategy in simulation with zero risk. When you're ready, connect your own brokerage and trade your own account on your own keys — you stay in control of every fill.
Business + Personal

Run your business books
in the same app.

Keep business finances completely separate from personal — then toggle between them in one click. Each workspace has its own accounts, its own dashboard, and its own money-in / money-out and subscriptions view.

One toggle, two worlds
Switch between Personal and any business workspace from the top bar. Accounts, transactions, bills and goals all re-scope instantly — nothing bleeds across.
Money in, money out
A per-workspace cash-flow tile shows what came in versus what went out this month, and the net — the number that actually runs a business.
Every service you're paying
Automatic detection of recurring charges and subscriptions for that workspace, with the total monthly burn — so nothing renews unnoticed.
Separate, by design
Your books stay isolated to each workspace. Link a business bank to the business; keep your personal accounts personal — and see them all in one app.
The Mobile App

Your command center, now in your pocket.

The Persistence app brings the whole thing to mobile — full dashboard, analytics, transactions and secure bank linking — plus a native home-screen widget for net worth & safe-to-spend and a biometric app-lock. Built with React Native and heading to Google Play now; iPhone and watch are next.

Home-screen widget
A native Android widget shows your net worth and safe-to-spend right on your home screen, refreshed in the background. Tap to jump into the app.
Biometric app-lock
Optional Face / fingerprint unlock guards the app on open and when you return to it — your balances never flash in the app switcher.
The full dashboard
Net worth, cash, investments, retirement, debt, monthly bills and safe-to-spend — the same HUD numbers, with pull-to-refresh.
📈
Analytics on the go
A scrubbable net-worth chart, income-vs-expenses, a spending-by-category donut, credit score and subscriptions — wherever you are.
🏦
Link banks from your phone
Connect accounts through Plaid right in the app, browse your full transaction feed, and manage or disconnect institutions anytime.
One account, every screen
Sign in once — the app, web dashboard and desktop HUD all share the same secure data, so you pick up right where you left off.

Shared Households

Your money, together — without sharing logins.

Invite a partner to a shared household and see one combined picture — your net worth, side by side. Each of you keeps your own accounts and your own login, and anything you mark private stays private.

One combined view
Net worth, cash, investments and debt pooled across everyone in the household, with a per-person breakdown so you always know who's holding what.
Invite by email
Add a partner with their email — they accept from their own account. No password sharing, no handing over your logins, ever.
Private stays private
Only the accounts you choose to show are shared. Hide an account and it's invisible to the household — and you can leave or remove a member anytime.
Make It Yours

A dashboard you build yourself.

Drag, resize, recolor. Add the tiles you care about, drop the ones you don't. Your layout saves to your account and follows you across devices.

Drag & resize
Grab any tile, move it, stretch it. Build the exact view you want — net worth up top, transactions wide, cash flow in the corner.
Recolor & toggle
Give each tile its own accent and switch tiles on or off. Add new ones — accounts, bills, goals, analytics, cash flow, subscriptions — from one menu.
Saved & synced
Your layout lives on your account, so it's the same on every device — and you can share it with the community or start from someone else's.
Community

Borrow the best setups
from everyone else.

Share and discover dashboard layouts, AI prompts, and trading-bot strategies. Find a setup you like and install it in a click — strategies always arrive on paper and disabled, so you review before anything is ever live.

Layouts & prompts
Start from a dashboard someone already perfected, or grab a great AI prompt for analyzing your money — one click to apply.
Strategies, safely
Install a community strategy and it lands as paper + disabled, re-validated on the way in. You enable it yourself — sharing can never move anyone's money.
Share your own
Publish your layout, prompt, or strategy with a click. No account numbers or balances are ever shared — only the setup itself.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Everything worth knowing before you connect an account.

What is Persistence?
Persistence is a personal-finance app built around an always-on-top desktop HUD (a thin overlay for Windows and macOS) plus a full web app. It shows your net worth, safe-to-spend, and upcoming bills at a glance, and adds AI insights on top of your real accounts — connected securely through Plaid.
Is my bank data safe?
Yes. Your bank login credentials never touch our servers — Plaid handles the connection — and the access tokens we hold are encrypted at rest with AES‑256‑GCM. Data is read-only, sessions are short-lived, and app updates are cryptographically signed. Full detail on our Security and Privacy pages.
Can the AI move my money or trade on its own?
No — never autonomously. A connected AI can read your finances and help organize them (categorize transactions, set goals, build rules, add accounts), and it can propose trades — but it cannot execute anything. Every trade is a proposal you explicitly approve, and any execution happens on your own connected brokerage, on your own keys, inside risk limits you control (per-order and daily caps, an allowlist, a kill-switch). No tool moves a single dollar on its own.
Can Persistence actually invest for me?
It helps you run your own strategy — it is a tool, not an adviser, and nothing here is investment advice. You see your full portfolio and set a target allocation; built-in strategies (dollar-cost averaging, target-allocation rebalancing, equal-weight) propose the orders to get there. You can practice on paper with zero risk, and when you're ready, connect your own brokerage and approve each trade yourself. Persistence never holds your money or makes discretionary decisions for you.
Can I keep business and personal finances separate?
Yes. Create a business workspace and toggle between it and Personal from the top bar. Each workspace has its own accounts, transactions, bills, goals and dashboard — including a money-in / money-out view and detected subscriptions — and they never mix. Link your business bank to the business and keep personal accounts personal, all in one app.
Which banks and accounts work?
Persistence connects through Plaid, which supports thousands of US banks, credit unions, brokerages, and card issuers. You can link checking and savings, credit cards, loans, and investment and retirement accounts — grouped into cash, investments, retirement, and debt. The free plan includes up to 2 linked accounts; paid plans remove the limit.
What does it cost?
There's a free tier covering the dashboard, up to 2 linked accounts, the phone widget, and 10 AI messages a day. Pro is $9/month and unlocks unlimited accounts, unlimited AI chat, the desktop HUD on all platforms, MCP server access, and automation — with a 14-day trial. A $29/month Wealth plan adds portfolio and tax-focused tools for investors.
Do I have to switch from the finance app I already use?
No. Persistence is designed to run alongside whatever you already use — it reads your accounts through Plaid rather than replacing your bank or budgeting tool. Many people keep their existing app and add Persistence for the always-visible HUD and the AI connection.
How does the AI / Claude connection work?
Persistence ships a built-in MCP server, so MCP-compatible assistants — Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT and others — connect directly to your finances. You authorize it once, and your AI gains 18 tools: reading your summary, transactions, subscriptions, bills, goals and household, plus organizing actions like categorizing, setting goals, building rules, adding manual accounts and remembering preferences. None of them move money, and you can revoke access anytime from the Developers portal.
Can I share a view with my partner?
Yes. Create a household and invite a partner by email — they accept from their own account, so you never share logins. You'll both see one combined net-worth view across everyone's accounts, with a per-person breakdown. Each person keeps their own accounts and login, and any account you mark hidden stays private to you.
Is Persistence a bank?
No. Persistence is not a bank and never holds your money. It's a dashboard that securely reads data from your existing bank and brokerage accounts through Plaid so you can see and understand it — your money stays exactly where it is.
How do I get started?
Sign in with Google on the web app, link an account or two through Plaid, and your dashboard and net worth populate right away. From there you can install the desktop HUD and, if you want, create an API key to connect your AI assistant. Setup takes a couple of minutes.
